NOTICE OF JURY SERVICE
You have been selected for Helena Municipal Court jury service. The law provides that all citizens 18 years of age or older, who are residents for at least 30 days of the state and of the city, town or county in which they are called for jury duty, and who are citizens of the United States are eligible for jury service. Effective October 1, 2007 jurors are selected from a combined list of registered voters, licensed drivers and holders of Montana ID cards.
The jury service term shall commence:
October 1, 2021 and end September 30, 2022
Montana law requires that you fill out the enclosed questionnaire and return it to the Clerk of Court within seven (7) days. If you believe jury service would cause you undue hardship, you may complete the affidavit for excusal located on the back side of the enclosed questionnaire. The affidavit must be signed and returned to Helena Municipal Court within seven (7) days. The judge will review your request to be excused from jury service and you will be notified of the judge’s decision.
YOU MUST FILL OUT THE ENTIRE QUESTIONNAIRE AND RETURN IT EVEN IF YOU REQUEST TO BE EXCUSED FROM JURY SERVICE.
Please contact Municipal Court at (406) 447-8464 in advance if you have a conflict arise, such as a vacation, out of town work obligation or have an emergency occur during the term.
This notice is not a summons to report for a specific date.
When you are needed to serve on a specific trial, you will be notified of the date by mail. Many times after you have been selected for a particular case, the case is settled before the time you are ordered to report. We will attempt to notify you when this occurs to avoid a possible inconvenience to you, your family or your employer. We believe that you will find your experience as a juror interesting and rewarding.
